well checked my bank balance this morn  cant order the opart for another week until i get paid as ive pretty much maxed out my overdraft  which in itself isnt a good situation either !!! bloody cars

well im goign to try and make it down to the scrappie wither tomorrow after work or sat the guy said to go down and they will try and match the part  so hopefully wont be too much bother or £

FECK, chucked mine in the bin last week off the scrapper  could have sold it to you for £69,99 

Make sure you check the alternator/ starter wiring as fuses dont normally melt unless there is a fault you could put the new fuse holder on and watch the same thing happen .

^^Good call - my fuse box on the battery looked like that after my alternator packed in, and the symptoms I experienced were similar to yours too.

yeah i dotn want to change it jsut for it to happen again from what i coudl see there didnt seem to be anything suspecct but then again i didn t really know what to look for any tips as im still nto really sure why it happened

Mine happened and hasn't happened again and it's been nearly a year

 you may find the connection has been slightly loose for some time and has been arcing and getting hot.

Had this problem on my octavia tdi. dash lights dimming etc and slow wipers. replaced fuse box and never had any problems again. If you can get a mate from a garage which has an account with vw then you can get it for around the £55 mark.
