Lots of 7.5Rs
« on: 16 January 2020, 11:03 »
My local dealer has 9 nearly new 7.5 Rs (mainly 19 plates) on the forecourt......but no GTIs at all.
Is this a thing?

......and sitting lonely in a corner of the showroom one well specced new TCR list price £40,500 offered for £38,800. Think they will have to do better than that.

…. And as much as I loved my R I actually brought the GTI just for the exclusivity in comparison!! It did help that it was cheaper don't get me wrong but and I still stand by this, I think it's a nicer car to drive! The R is absolutely great and sure footed but the GTI on a twisty B road just feels so much more alive!!

Just a personal opinion folks!!

If you look on the VW used car website that are a lot more Rs than GTIs - you local dealer's used stock seems to reflect that.

So is the final 7.5 GTI the better “keeper”?

Yes, it’s my experience too  - there was lots of R’s for sale but very few GTi’s. And a Used Gti with Dynamic Chassis (essential for me) was very rare. So I ended up buying new.

For me, absolutely!!!

In a few years I may look at the Mk8 GTI depending on looks and reviews but if not I think I'll still be happy in my little 7.5!

Agree 100%, I wanted a Golf R because it looked impressive on paper but after test driving a few I wasn't impressed. The salesman said to give a GTI ago - and the rest is history.

I've been asked a couple of times "when you getting an R" as if I'm in a lesser car because it's only GTI. I'd rather have a Clubsport S anyway. Those that know, know.
