Not at all, I've always quite fancied one, not a GTI though. Already have one of those... Quite fancy this though.

Not many of those left now, not in bad condition really.

Yeah i think they're a tad more comfortable.  GTI is a GTI though, GX is more of a little cruiser.

Thats what I thought, looks like its just the paint that needs attention.

Finally found my stuff on the Richard Lloyd/GTI Engineeing 5 door GTI

Pics:

I think it also came with the long range fuel tank that used the spare wheel well, not sure but this was an option and this car had pretty much all of them when I saw it for sale a long time back...  I believe its the same engine as mine underneath it all. RLR 8v plus pac with around 135-140 bhp.  I'd be surprised if mines still pumping out OEM horses at the moment let alone the extra it was given all those years ago..  :lipsrsealed:

I used to visit GTI Engineering regularly back in the 80's and I'm sure I saw this once. Like all Mk1's, it is a thing of beauty

Was it factory built or converted by RLR

As far as I am aware it was RLR built with assistance from VW, probably for correct parts.  not sure what the base car was to start with.
