R-Tech VNT sticky turbo vanes repair   http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/393599.aspx

In 90% of cases this will stop overboost limp mode, return better MPG and make the car more responsive.

We also blueprint the VNT fittings and shims to allow for more clearance to help stop it happening again.

I have managed to save around 60+ Tdi owners £1200 each after main dealers have told them they need new turbo unit to stop the overboost.  :happy2:

When a edc16 1.9 2.0 TDI see 400mb overboost condition for more than 10 seconds then main fuel IQ map reverts to a generic setting for limp mode to reduce the engine power output, but becuase the VNT is sticky the turbo will continue to overspool/boost.
The constant overspool/ boosdepend on vanes position, but both conditions cause heat build up and can warp / melt the turbine tiops and vanes.  This happend more so on cars running stock mapping and can happen with less than 50k on the clock.

Pics of a VW Touran 2.0TDI 55k stock mapping which had the 17965 fault for 6month, this one we could not fix due to the melted parts..lol

I hope by posting this it saves someone splashing out £1200, when a basic £235 strip down and clean will fix the over boost in 90% of common 17965 faults.

In the past we have used the Innotec spray in turbo cleaner which cleans the turbo whilst still on the car, we charged £100 this inc the cleaning kit and labour with new exhaust to turbo gasket.  If the turbo is slighlty sticky this method will fix the limp mode fault, this is the first port of call.  If this cleaning method does not work 100% then the turbo needs to come off and fully stripped to have the whole of the VNT gears cleaned.  To remove the turbo and clean the VNT we charge for cleaning the turbo, labour and blueprinting of the vnt gear.  If you have the money spare then the best way forward is to go straight to a turbo off the car VNT clean as this will return best value for money in the long run. The spay on solution make work for a few week or could last for a few years, its all down to the age of the car and how bad the VNT is.
