Should I stage 1 my GTi Perfomrance?
« on: 14 April 2022, 12:37 »
As mentioned, I am getting my new GTi Performance delivered next week. My old standard MK5 Gti has stage 1 on it. Not sure in this case which would be faster? My old GTi with the stage 1 or a standard Performance 2018  GTi? Should I stage 1 my Performance, which will get around 300bhp? It wont be too fast?

Thanks

FWIW… My previous car was a Mk3 Leon FR 1.8 TSI which had 177 BHP (plus 250Nm of torque) as standard but after a year of ownership I got a Shark stage 1 remap done which took it up to around 225 BHP (plus 300Nm of torque) and made it a much nicer daily driver.

I traded the Leon in for a GTI Performance in February and the first upgrade I did was to swap the Potenza tyres on front wheels for Pilot Sport 4, as on cold tarmac they would spin every time I more than feathered the accelerator.

Popped into VAGtech for a REVO stage 1 ECU remap earlier this week (should be getting the TCU done when they get new file in after Easter) and the extra torque means that front wheels will spin if I floor the accelerator but I’m getting used to it and finding it to be an even more satisfying daily driver.

I’d see how you get along with your new wheels for a few weeks at least before deciding, as whilst the extra power is nice to have the stock 245 BHP is plenty enough for a FWD car tbh.

I was also thinking of getting my car remapped to stage one but have held off so for for a couple of reasons

I am worried about the standard clutch, as many people say it isn't all that robust and two it is under warranty.

It does struggle already to get the standard power onto the road at times, especially as I have Pirelli pzero tyres which are not the best unless it is bone dry and warm.

FWIW you can have the control unit for your automatic transmission remapped as well.

Love my Revo Stage 1, between 355-365 now and about a second quicker to 62, about 4.5.
