Tappets
« on: 25 March 2003, 21:58 »
Hello ppl.

The tappets on my MkII are getting louder n' louder. It's got to the stage where it's definately affecting the performance of the sweet thing.

Now, I've spoken to some bods and they reckon that it's a 'big job' to get it sorted. Is it better to just get them adjusted (Shouldn't they be auto-adjusting as they're hydraulic?) or replace them entirely?

And how difficult is it really either to replace them?

Please help...
Cheers!

They will be hydraulic and therefore do not require adjusting. Its quite common for them to get 'tappy' as the miles pile on, usually worse on start up.
They are about ?6 each to replace from GSF. Not too difficult, if you can change a cambelt (which is worth doing whilst you're at it), then you can do this.
Have a look at the link below for more information (Including, how to check for excess wear):-

If you need any more info let me know, I have it all to hand  ;)
