stereo troubles

hello there chaps..

? ? iam fitting a new stereo in me golf gti 8v and i am trying to find out what some of the wires are that are part of the standard loom. The ones in question are all in a black conector and they are,

Brown. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?(ground/earth)
Red. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?(permenant live)
white & yellow. ? ? ( ?? ?)   )
Brown & red. ? ? ? ( ?? ?)     >the second is a stripe on  
Grey & blue. ? ? ? ?( ?? ?) ? ? )the first


I dont want to chop in too other looms to find a switched live if i can help it and i dont want ?to put the switched live in with the permanant live .

? Can any one help..

Does your new stereo not have the correct connector to just plug it in?

When I fitted my stereo (sony) to my Mk3, I just had to buy an adaptor from Halfords, then just plug it in.

Best to avoid cutting it all up if you can.

Ill try and look at mine mate cos my bro chopped the existing wires and used bullet connectors, as my mk2 didnt have the DIN adapter that albo is referring to...

Ill pull the alpine out and have a look, unless someone beats me 2 it in the meantime....

these are the speaker wires, a quick look in the golf manual will allow you to tell which ones they are.

thanks chaps.

ps.. pjg5uk     the speaker cables are in a second conector which is brown and if the wires were for the speakers there would only be three speakers in me golf and at the last count there was six
