Excellent piece mate.
Doc, looks like a sticky candidate to me.

Just fitted mine with Bridges. Nice rim protection. Can't really say that I've notice any more road noise. Hoping they will last longer than the Pirellis.

Glad you are happy.

Today I saw a brand new Ford C Max Titanium at work. Sat in it and was very impressed by the fit and finish of the interior, the superb panel fit + paint finish. Though I must admit it: the interior was a touch bling. I liked it!

But what really impressed me were the Continental ContiSport 3 tyres. I have never ever seen such massive rim protection. Double than that on my Bridgestones. These Contis were on 17" wheels. These Conti 3s are most probably Ford specific, as the Conti 3s on our Mercedes C class has really very miserable rim protection. Very annoying I must admit.

Yeah, I noticed this too (just after I got the bridges fitted). A mate at work has a Kermit green focus RS & it has conti's on it, and they have some serious rim protection. Gutted!

Well I measured the rim protection on the Contis and my Bridgestones! :nerd:
The Contis were exactly double!
I got some really very strange looks whilst doing this! :embarassed:

Snoops:
It gets more embarrassing.
I went back to the C-Max again in my break to do some extra rim measurement (rimming??). +
Well, even though the Contis have this really massive rim protection, it is fundamentally flawed. The protection is too far away from the actual wheel rim. Not as effective as I first thought

Here are some pictures of Conti rim protection on the C-MAX. :nerd:

That does not look too bad to me. It would work if you brushed a kerb for example.
How low a profile are those as the wall protection may change with profile. If i ever go to 18s i would want as much protection as i could get.

Asker, you are quite correct in your assumption that Conti 3s have varying rim protectors.
The ones I had on my mk5 GTI (and briefly on my mk6 too on my old 18'' BBSs) had mahoosive rim protectors.

If you look at this picture and your eyes are good enough or you've got a biggish screen to view them you can see the difference between the flush sitting Conti 2s on the rear and the tractor tyre like Conti 3s on the front axle.

The ones I've just fitted to my 19'' BBSs have much smaller rim protectors, and I mean MUCH smaller.
