Don't know how helpful this is, but:

That's from my mk7 GTI...

Just had a play with this while looking at going from 225/40R18 to 235/35R19 on a GTI. Nice that it shows the speedo difference and the overall diameter change side by side, saves doing the sums on a bit of paper.

One thing that would be handy is a rim width check, so it warns you when a tyre is outside the recommended width range for a given wheel. Plenty of people here end up stretching or squeezing tyres without realising. Also a quick note on how much the speedo error matters for MOT purposes would help the less technical lot.

Good that you added inch inputs, that's a big improvement.

This table should help with your query on rim width; it gives the minimum, maximum and ideal tyre width by wheel width;

The article at the link below includes a section (the last section) on the legal position in the UK of a vehicle’s speedo under-reading and over-reading. The article’s not MOT-specific but hopefully includes the information you need to answer your query;

Golf mk8 / Re: What have you done to your mk8 today?

On my way home this evening noticed a dark coloured GTI behind me - not sure if it was a 8 or 8.5 - next thing blue lights and the GTI comes flying past me and down the road dodging between cars.

I seen many unmarked R's but this was my first unmarked GTI - plenty of pops as it flew past!

Golf mk7 / Could someone look at obdeleven

Could someone look at obdeleven to see if the golf gti 7.5 can have the steering changed to comfort permanently please?

I'm a disabled driver and use a driving knob, but i'm finding it a bit heavy now, i spoke to my vw dealer as it's going in for a service/mot and they said they've never heard of this and i need to contact a vw specialist lol/wth   :smiley:

i've asked google ai, and it states it's in

1.Through tools like VCDS or OBDeleven, a programmer can go into Module 44 (Steering Assistance), bypass the active drive modes, and switch the Characteristic Curve of Steering Assistance strictly to Comfort. This change is permanent and will not automatically reset when you switch off the ignition.

doing it through the mode button only gives me normal/sport options.

thanks

Cosmetic and bodywork matters / Re: Paint work
« Last post by nadab_sardar on 06 October 2026, 12:50 »
Doing it at home is possible, but the hard part is the colour match, not the spraying. Original Monza blue fades differently from panel to panel, so a fresh mix might look spot on on the rear and roof but clash with the factory wings and doors in the sun. Get the paint code off the door shut plate, take it to a decent paint supplier, and ask them to make up a test card. Then compare it against the bonnet or a sheltered bit of the wing before you commit. If the roof and rear are a mess, sanding them back properly is most of the job, and that's where a cheap home attempt usually goes wrong. You might get a better result for the money by paying an independent body shop to do just those panels and blend the wings, rather than a full respray.

Yes a new battery requires coding in. Tells the charging system to review the charging regime and not overcharge. Obd11 is able to do this.

To average over 50mpg for a single trip tho like others posted, you mean downhill all the way i guess?  :wink:

Nope, not at all.

On a several hour long motorway trip it will do that if you set ACC on.

Grimsby to Cornwall, no problem!

Just drive carefully and its totally possible.
