khare's mk3 GTI...16v!
« on: 13 December 2008, 15:49 »
Well, finally have the car that made me fall in love with VW's.
A mystic blue VW golf mk3 GTI 8v.
My dad had this car while i was growing up and i used to love it and always wanted one. When i turned 17, i looked for a mk3 but obviously couldnt afford a gti, so at the end i went for a 1.6 mk2 driver.
It was a good learning experience, and has lived up to the standard of mk2s, fun to drive, easy to mod, and cheap.
Anyway, the mk3...bought it december 2008 from a dealer not too far from me, paid £900 and with it came FSH, 12 months mot, 6 months tax, electric wondows, electric sunroof, electric mirrors, NO RUST and a healthy 8v engine.
The drivers side window and sunroof didnt work, but the dealers promise was to fix aything before it was handed over, so he sorted rear wheel bearing, electric window and sunroof, he did the tracking and camber, and replaced afew bits that were missing like drivers door pin, boot carpet, and o/s bumper air vent.
Got home and the sunroof wasnt working anymore, so ive got to take it back to the dealers in january when im back from holiday.
Spent last night and today playing with the car and found some stuff that needs doing.
  • right number plate light not working, probably needs a new bulb
  • adjust the drivers door striker as its slightly catching on the lock jsut before it closes.
  • replace the bumper vents with cold air intakes
  • find out why the ABS light does not light up
  • A full service including cleaning throttle body

anyway, cant drive it due to insurance until january, probably late january i imagine.
Gonna roll standard (although its already lowered) for a month and fix anything that needs fixing, then the modding will start.
Plans are:
  • Chip
  • air intake (probably induction kit, if not, drilled box with performance panel filter)
  • exhaust, was gonna get a cat back first, but i think im gonna get a 4-2-1 manifold first then make the rest of the exhaust myself.
  • camshaft, from BBM. Will be a high lift cam for sure.

here is the beauty.

sorry for bad quality pics, it was off my mobile phone.

Looks good mate, I've always preffered the earlier MKIII's with all the plastic trim. My Dad had a dark silver VR6 on an M plate when I was in my late teens.

Big FAIL there -  you need an empty skip to put it in.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I hope you're not going to put blue rear light clusters on a purple car?  :lipsrsealed:

I agree with Nick, the early MK3s look better with the plastic trims.
