Moving on to my other car, this will predominantly be my daily driver, fun, project car
Now a little history, just before Christmas I spied this on EBay, bad advert poor pics and in London, I'm in Aberdeen, I watched it, stuck in a bid and surprisingly, for less than £500 it was mine. Excellent, merry Christmas to me.
I never viewed the car, took a total risk, paid to have it delivered and first impressions were pretty grim, manky interior, missing indicators/covers, burst steering wheel, missing tailpipes, this was the tip of the iceberg,
Anyways here it is after a hose down just after completing its trip north
Feeling a little deflated I then went on to check the jacking points, rear footwell bungs, and the other usual mk3 rot traps, nothing to report, straight rot free sills, rot free footwell bungs, rot free inside the doors, rear sills, floor, delighted was an understatement, time to get some bits together and form a plan
I popped into VW and ordered replacement skirt covers and front splitter, I wasn't holding out much hope with the latter as forum hearsay for years has been they are obsolete, 2 days later my bits had arrived, including the splitter. GET IN.
Going from this damaged OEM Splitter
To this fresh new one. I fitted indicators and covers I got from my mate
The bags the splitters arrived in (sorry they are upside down)
Moving on from that I decided I would replace the rear carpet, as it was badly worn and grubby, I got a new one from my mate, I also took the opportunity to clean out the rear foot wells whilst the seats were out. I will do the front one later on when I'm doing work at that end of the car
Drivers side rear footwell
Passenger side rear footwell
Nice and rust free, which of the 20+ mk3s I have owned this is by far the freshest one.
Whilst the seats were out, I decided it would be rude not to replace them with the black colour concept seats I had in the garage, some may see it as silly removing the anniversary seats, but they were dirty, rather worn and I find them VERY uncomfortable
And how it looks now still unwashed after a new N/Sdoor mirror, front splitter and local dealer plates
I have some plans for it that will displease the purists, however bear with me,
I'm getting an MOTd OBD2 VR6 with a stainless exhaust from my mate for £300 so that will be getting transplanted in a few weeks time, with OEM factory airbox
Suspension needs replaced I have asked about coil overs on here that are for sale
Bought black ABC pillar trims, I'm still undecided on doing the roof cloth black
New OEM lower arms, front steering arms, top mounts, wheel bearings, ABS sensors etc when the engine is transplanted
Mk3.5 Cab wheel again asked about one on here
Highline centre console
Climatronic retrofit
Colour coded door ibiza handles and rear spoiler, and bumpers repainted
Fit side skirt covers
Replace front carpet
Replace sunroof with one from donor car
Refurb wheels with anthracite centres, silver lips and 6r Polo centre caps with Audi nut covers
Fit hi tech moulded mudflaps (smaller and less obstructive than OEM Votex)
Remove non functioning rear wiper
Highline rear badge
Replace GTI badges front and rear
Off the top of my head that's about it, I'm hoping to have the suspension and engine work done in the next few weeks when I return to the UK
