What options to choose on GTi??
« on: 30 May 2005, 19:52 »
Guys

Not yet an owner, but am seriously considering one for my company car.

There are plenty of options to choose from, but was considering:

Armrest - not got one in my Leon, and miss it big time.
Xenons - always promised myself a car with these.
Soundpack stereo upgrade - although I have read some bad reports about rattles etc
Multi-function steering wheel - can't be arsed to reach over to the stereo...

Leather seems far too expensive IMHO, especially when the standard seats are quite cool!!

Any guidance from existing owners would be greatly appreciated

Haven't got it yet but I went for the arm rest too, it was on the demo car and is well worth the money.

Didnt go for leather as the standard seats are very good and I spent the money on the DSG with multifunction steering wheel /paddles instead.

You could spend a fortune adding on bits and pieces but I went for the minimum improvements with what I felt was maximum gain in terms of comfort and performance.

Other people on here went for the bigger wheels but again they are more money and bearing in mind the roads I have to drive on in Ireland didnt make sense to me.

I went for DSG auto box Winter pak , centre armrest , upgraded main stereo unit which takes 6 discs frontloaded into main unit and Sound pak. I am very pleased with all the options except Sound pak. I listened to it back to back with demonstrator without sound pak using same CD to convince myself they had actually fitted soundpak and decided there was a marginal improvement in sound quality with soundpak. Main gripe is lack of really meaty bass and the doors vibrate when u play a track with a lot of base. In my mark 4 GTI I went to a car Hi Fi specialist and had superb Pioneer speakers fitted for less than 200 Pounds and this made a very noticable sound difference and was much better value for money than sound pak. I am thinking of upgrading speakers at same Hi- Fi specialist but would only do this if something can be done about doors vibrating.Hope this helps

Forgot to say also got multi function steering wheel mainly for paddle shift. Have not actually used paddle shift much as trying not to rev engine too much for 1st 1000 miles but its a nice toy !  Feels like a Sony Play station !

I would definitely choose the 18s because in my opinion they look a lot better than the 17s, not just because they are bigger but because of the colour and the finish on them, they just make the car look a lot better. Also, the leather may be an expensive option but again IMO it is much better than the standard cloth, I almost got cloth and in hindsight having seen the cloth I am glad I didnt. The armrest is also good as it finishes the interior off.

Before I even read the text, (ie just saw the title) I was thinking one thing. ARMREST

Sounds like a lot of money for what you get. Best option on the list  (price to use ratio)

Soundpack? Advice against, sadly. (see other thread)

HEre are the only options on GTIs in Australia (5dr only)

1) Xenons (Not worth the extra)
2) Sunroof (Would hav iif it was a full length panoramic, not worth 2k for a tiny hole in the roof)
3) LEather (Love the interl, trim &  the harsh Aus Sun makes the leather burn)
4) DSG (Yep, Development Manger of Bugatti Veryon said the most amazing thing bout the car wass the DSG. Nuff said)
5) Met/Pearl Paint (Think my white will look good agaisnt the balck hightlight, As for Red, it's a golf hatch not a sexonwheels Ferrari)
6) 18" Wheels (not worth the penalty in ride quality on patch Aus Roads. & the waer rate is really bad once u go over 45 profile)

Hope that helps, Any other option is standard for the Aus Cars (47k Aus$)
Was due to pick mine up on Mon but been delayed till Fir hopefully.
For the owners, hows the car? Is it really as good as every ones saying it is?
