« on: 16 July 2022, 10:03 »
Hi

Anyone know how this works on a new gti , I’ve heard it’s mandatory after july22. Is it easy to switch off or override?(Assuming you can)

Cheers

I think it’s mandatory on new models launched from July 2022. As the mk8 Golf was an existing production model before July 2022, I don’t think it’s mandatory for it to be fitted with a speed limiter.

Just read up on this.  It sounds like a monumental risk and I can imagine many more accidents caused by these systems than accidents avoided.  Lots of people taken to court too because they are legally responsible for what their car does.

My solution will be to stick with an older car until the system is 'perfected' or abandoned.

Of course that will not protect me from failures in other people's cars so I'll drive with my fingers crossed.

You can override it by pressing the accelerator .
It will however reset itself on the next ignition cycle.

You can turn it on already if you want to. Given how many problems they've had with traffic sign recognition, someone is in for a bumpy ride.

Turning it off is quite easy though and unless they did something different Obd11 will fix it just like the mandatory lane assist..

Agree with Fred. Speed sign recognition is not yet fully fit for purpose. I regularly get 60mph on my dash on the A1.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
