1980 GTi seating, your views please.
« on: 18 July 2016, 13:24 »
Morning.  After successfully removing 7 years of dust from my Golf, I'm facing a decision.  I have a Black fade to Grey interior, the front seats let it down, as the back cloth is fraying.  The test is mint.  I brought some race seats, as my head is too close to the roll cage.
7 years ago these weren't worth what they are today, hence the seat idea.
But then again, it is lowered, big brakes, roll cage, KR engine etc, so not standard.  (All ordinal parts have been kept).

So;

Do I put the new race seats in, or stick with the original?

Cheers
Mark

Post up a few pictures for us to admire regardless. Also, what are the seats you have for it?

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Hmmm retrim originals. Although a roll cage sort of makes for bucket seats.

Pictures will come as soon as I can figure out how to.
Spent yesterday splicing the 1980 rear light loom into the 1987 loom, installing the central locking and trying to sort the gear linkage clouting the manifold.
Still a bare shell!

I had an Ashley one I spent ages port matching and wrapping, only to find it was for the 9a lump, so interfered with the front anti roll bar ;(
I have the KR manifold, first couple of inches (including the flexy pipe) of KR down pipe then a couple of sleeves onto the mk1 down pipes, all welded together.
I modified the gear linkage to avoid the 4 branch, now that mod hits the spring shield for the manifold, so it needs modding again!  Never stops this 'business of classic cars'
:)

Is the 4 branch any good?  I want one, but spent ages making my Frankenstine one, so want to give it a go.

I have wiring issues at the moment, I'll look to see if there any threads, if no, I'll post more questions! ;)

Cheers

Cool.  Thank you.  I'll start saving, but first I need to get her up and running, it's never run, and I've done something wrong, as I can turn the bottom end over by hand, with the head on its gone tight (hopefully a cam cap - the joys of a second hand head that comes in bits 😕).
Also need to sort out two wires and a rear wiper arm.
And so it goes on.
Hopefully be road legal before the end of next month!
