I've been diaappointed with mpg on my new GTI . average 26mpg so far over first 1500 miles , mixed driving usually fairly gentle with R foot but occasionally letting it rip. Also not revving too much for 1st 1000 miles to break in . Got 38mpg with Mark 4  2 litre petrol GTI when breaking in , fell to 28mpg afterwards. On paper 2 cars should give very similar mpg

on normal driving im getting between 32-36mpg.

Think it costs 46 quid to fill from empty to full but optimax with me is 92p a litre.

I have also managed on a long run to get nearly 400 miles from a tank.  On the same long run the GT TDI i had before only managed just over 450.

Very pleased with mine :D

I am averaging 24 - 25 mpg but that is driving it hard. Costs about £42 to fill up using optimax and I am at the shell garage every other day, done 4000 miles in it now and loving every minute of it.

I was pissed off yesterday and was just bimbling along the M25 at 60-70 and it averaged 33mpg over 40 miles so it really depends how you drive it but if you drive it in the way it is built to be driven then dont expect good economy, if that is what you are after get a GT TDI.

Just thought i would share this with you all.....

Before my MK V i Had the MK IV  4motion and this returned around 28 -30 mpg which was rather dissapointing.

Traded it in for a MK V GtTdi DSG 2.0 and im getting around 45 - 50 mpg the best i have had on a full tank was 606 miles (although i was driving it like a fairy)!!  On normal running around I get about 500 miles to the full tank.

Diesel power!!
