Worthwhile Extras?
« on: 02 August 2008, 18:11 »
I am in the fortunate position to be about to place an order for a GTI.

I would be very grateful if I could get some feedback on what is and what is not a sensible option?

What I have so far is a  5dr GTI in steel grey, dsg, multifunction steering wheel plus paddleshift, cruise control, and finally centre armrest.

Now where I would like help, is personal experiences of the following:

1. RNS510 Sat Nav, i.e is it worth the huge cost?
2. Xenon headlights?
3. VW Ipod preparation if not taking up Sat Nav option. (I believe other non VW Ipod options are available-compatable with multifunction steering wheel controls?)
4. Upgraded soundpack (if RCD500 option taken).

Is there anything else that people have either regretted specifying or not specifying?

Looking forwards to hearing your opinions. Thanks.

Sounds like your after the normal GTI version of my car

1 - RNS510 - IMO yes, but there are cheaper aftermarket better specified options available, or retro fit the RNS-510 and save a few hundred.

2 - Xenon's - 100% yes for me.

3 - iPod - No no no. It's rubbish.

Also get the dealer to fit the cruise, it's £155 on the dealers option list compared to £270 for factory fitted

thats because you only get a 2 year warranty on dealer fitted extras whereas its the full 3 year warranty if its factory fitted

Good point, I hadn't ever thought of that.

Xenons is a big yes for me too.. Not only for the added night vision. But they transform the front of the car IMO..
RNS510 is also a yes for me, but it is costly. If you can stretch to it then defo worth it..
Last but not least armrest is a biggy IMO..

Candy White Ed30 3dr DSG, Nav, Bi-Xenons, Armrest, MFSW...

Heated wing mirrors are standard equipment

If you can afford the hefty price tag of the xenons then they are a must definitely. I still can't understand why VW charge so much more for xenons than the likes of BMW.

Armrest 100%
18" Monza II wheels - for aesthetic reasons - 100%
Luxury pack has its uses too...

It's the folding one's that are options (as part of the Lux pack).

but the part costs less than the difference so you could swop it yourself if it broke
