Wrong oil in GTI
« on: 21 October 2009, 13:58 »
Anyone got any experience of going to pick up their GTI after a service and noticing the wrong oil on the invoice?

JUst happened to me, had PD diesel oil on the invoice.

I was not happy i can tell you, it took them an hour to convince me it was a mistake when putting the invoice together and not a mistake by the service technician.

Ended up with the original job card in my hand that said P1000 LL oil and not the P3000 PD shyte.

Still got the nagging feeling though.

I know theres only one way to be sure.

Yup, I would get a sample tested.
Where can you get it tested though - another dealership??

you can get self-test kits I believe or a kit which you then post off to a testing facility and they will email you your results

In work with me we use Swansea Tribiology   They give us a full breakdown of the make-up of the oil

Not sure if the public can use them but its a starting point

I know it's a pain and I suppose you'd have to pay for it, but would it just be easier to arrange to get it changed again (maybe elsewhere)?  By the time you've arranged to get it tested (and paid for it).  They're not called stealers for nothing, at least you noticed it on the invoice.

probably invoice msitake. if you're that bothered, do an oil change yourself with the right stuff - don't faff about getting it tested.

imho, if you're not sure, get it flushed and put in new oil.

Chalk it down to a bad experience and don't use that dealer again.

Don't think you're going to get any more than that if I'm honest.....

Good luck though!

Isn't the longlife oil standard for both petrol and diesel? I think it is now - codes for 504 & 507 both seem to be on the bottles.

I think you're onto something.  I went in to buy oil a few months back and the parts guy said that there is now only one oil for the gti (hand book lists two) and its the same oil as in a diesel.  Forget which code it is though.

Mine has diesel oil on the invoice.

I just assumed it was the girl who made up the invoice making a mistake.
