Had a look on the configurator yesterday, it appears you can select an ED45 (Akrapovic, Scotsdale wheels and leather trim) wonder what impact this will have on the relatively special edition ED45 proper?

Also notice that the standard CS is £40,005 before options. Luxury car VED on a Golf is ludicrous another stealth tax as more and more fairly normal cars tip over £40k!!!!

OK, this has frustrated me a bit, surely VW can't sell us a limited production run Edition 45 model, pull it from ordering, then offer an Edition 45 pack that turns a standard Clubsport into an Edition 45 model!

I've emailed VW to ask them what is included in the pack, my fingers are crossed it's another VW configurator error!

Don’t think it is a mistake just VW maximising profits
Disappointed in this as i have a 45 due but got good discount
on it which I doubt today is available
Specifying a Clubsport to Edition 45 spec will be a fair bit more than the list price that the 45 was

Hmm, the steering wheel already has red stitching, so its just the GTI badge on the seats.

The "high gloss" on the centre console sounds good, should help make that area of the centre console look a bit more premium (but also very scratch prone). Should be a simple retrofit too if you wanted it...

And if I read that right, lane assist / side assist will be optional rather than standard?

I've not got red stitching on my steering wheel (21 plate - May 2021)

I only noticed this recently (while browsing ads for used GTI's) that the red stitching is absent on regular GTI steering wheels. Its only standard (up to now at least) on the Clubsport. A strange omission really!

MK8 GTI Clubsport. Reflex silver, Estorils, and a few other bits.

I think what the configurator is showing in the picture in terms of the 45 decals on the sides and 45 on the steering wheel is an error. However you can definitely as noted get a pack to add Akra and Scottsdale alloys and separately two tone paint with a black roof so in effect a normal Clubsport can be made the same as a 45 just without the 45 on it, bit odd really. It does take away from the uniqueness of owning a 45.

If you look at the German configurator that seems to be set up correctly.

I suspect something similar will end up happening with the R 20 extras in due course.

I also think it's an error with the configurator, below is a physical car with the GTI Performance Pack added, same spec as Edition 45 bar the 45 decals.

On the configurator it even calls it Edition 45 trim

Tbh, as a CS45 owner, I didn’t buy it for the bits but because it’s a CS45. These aren’t so doesn’t really bother me. I actually think it’s good that they’re being offered. Doesn’t make it a CS45 in my mind though. As for residuals, people who want a 45, want a 45, not a trim level equivalent so don’t think it’ll affect them.

I think the problem is that people won't know the difference.

See, I think people will because the 45 naturally attracts the total Vw geeks so they’ll definitely know.
