I was going to tack on to one of the other threads on the same subject that I came across via Google but thought I'd start a new one, so here goes...

I had the AFS error come up on the dash on Sunday afternoon, I've changed the bulbs (Philips WhiteVision ultra H7) and its made no difference at all.

So, here's where I'm at....

- The nearside headlight is very wet inside, lots of condensation, as in full on big drops of water on the inside of the cover not just a bit of misting, especially at the front and round the indicator. I know this is acceptable to a degree but pretty sure this is excessive, and its only been an issue for the last week or two.
- The nearside cornering light stays on all the time. Offside never works despite being a new good bulb.
- The headlights don't auto level when you start the engine and were pointing very low and a little bossed eyed.
- Today for the first time the error cleared itself and they levelled up to a more normal angle, but then the error came back a few seconds later, thankfully the lights stayed at a decent level and not too low.

Before I book it into VW anything else I should check/try? Fuses?

I'm assume its something to do with the water ingress and I'm expecting a sensor or maybe even a new headlight?  :undecided:

I have a cheap OBD scanner and used ELM Car Scanner to read the codes, here's the output (I don't really know what I'm looking at) but I do see references to the headlights, I'm assuming they mean its going to be expensive! Although I've only had it for 3 months and it was VW approved used from a dealer, so I wonder if it would be covered under the warranty?

Any advise would be great, thanks.

If it is still under the approved warranty then I would be taking it back immediately and asking them to fix it. There is a myriad of possible reasons it could be happening, but as stated, you have a warranty so make the most of it whilst you still can.

IMO - If the car wasn't covered then we could start trouble shooting but for now it isn't worth getting stressed over.

Hi, cheers for the reply.

Oh I intend to, just crazy busy with work and waiting for a call back from the local dealer. I bought it from a dealer who is about 60 miles away.

Just be careful as some warranties won’t cover water leaks.

Speaking from experience with the wife’s Volvo

Got a call yesterday, they are in the process of replacing the nearside headlight and both control units for the headlights? All fully under warranty.

Fingers crossed I can pick it up tomorrow!

That sounds like a good result. Any idea how the water got into the headlight?
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

No idea! But I intend to ask the question when I pick the car up. Only had the thing less than 3 months so could have been something that was only an issue in the cooler months....

Got the car back this afternoon. New nearside headlight and power module as the old one was corroded apparently.

Either way, all done under warranty, bill he gave me said 890 quid! God bless warranty!
