Yesterday I whipped off my front wheels to inspect the tyres properly as I know I need a pair fairly soon and to give the wheels a proper scrub while I was there. I kinda wish I didn’t now, as I spotted this  :embarrassed:

It could be there for a long time for all I know. I can’t recall having any pothole incidents recently and the tyre has no damage nor is it leaking any air. I guess it is bound to get worse though isn’t it…

Wow, I know it’s a heart sinking moment but lucky you did spot it.

Hopefully it’s repairable. And on the back of the wheel, so a repair won’t be visible! I would imagine loads of cars have damage like this that goes undetected forever.

The wheel is otherwise mint and I don't fancy having to pay VW for a new Estoril

By chance JoeGTI you haven’t taken out any of that wheel protection insurance with the dealers have you? Just a thought if you have they’ll potentially cover that repair or replacement wheel.

I don’t unfortunately.

I’m going to leave it for a week or two anyway. Will suss out tyre fitter and a local repair place that I’ve heard good things about. It’s not leaking any air and I’d be none the wiser if I’d never looked at it!

Don't wish to worry you but most weld repairs on wheels re crack around the weld again after  while.
