£1000 for more power - what do I buy?
« on: 23 June 2012, 17:54 »
Possibly getting a 2002 1.8T this weekend and its completely standard under the bonnet.

I have up to a grand to spend on power related mods as the brakes/suspension/wheels etc are all sorted so what should I be looking at, where from and how much?

I have a decent mechanic who can do the spanner work but would like to stick with bolt on upgrades and a map, ideally aiming for 250+bhp and a decent torque figure.

If theres anyone on here with a decent spec list and real life performance numbers please post up a shopping list :)

Cheers, Stu

I'm 39 mate, i've been a car enthusiast for 20 years and have always had a 2nd car as a toy/pride n joy to enjoy when i'm not working.

I dont drive like a vicar but dont hang about either. I dont abuse my car, especially when I've put work into it but do trackdays/nurburgring etc every so often. I've recently had a 300bhp impreza but hated the "fragile" sticker on it, build quality and ridiculous price for performance parts so thought i'd go for a mk4 golf as i've always liked them and I know they have potential.

So no, I wont be driving it like an idiot

£150 coilovers (jom)
Panel filter £30/40
Decent turboback exhuast £350
Forge 007p recirculating valve £100
Turbo intake pipe from creation sports £80
Remap depending on engine code £200/250

Agu/arz will remap to max 200bhp
Aum/auq will remap to upto 250bhp but with better injectors, fmic, forge actuator and good engine compnants ie catch can, silicone boost pipes and vr6 maf etc

You need alot of money to achieve 250bhp and decent torque of about 280/290 not to mention a single mass flywheel conversion.
1.6-1.8t AGU K03s, Forge actuator, Forge 007p, turbo back exhuast, Ths front mount, Catch can, 5 piece silicone boost pipes and creation sports tip. Stage 2 atm 232bhp 270lbs. Waiting for custom mapping :-)
