Cancellation of an order
« on: 10 June 2022, 19:21 »
Got a mk8 gti on order, ordered in April with at least a year to wait before delivery. I have a £500 deposit on it, if I found a nearly new one for a decent price and decided to cancel the order,

A/ would I lose the deposit with vw
B/ would I get charged any fee for cancellation.
Read up on it and it looks like I would lose my deposit but not 100%sure .
Cheers

What does it say on the paperwork that confirms your deposit?

It doesn’t say anything about the deposit.

If there is nothing that has been signed to reference a non-refundable deposit then I can't see how you can lose it

So I have just cancelled my Clubsport order and received my deposit back. However, I was only two months into the order.

I think with current build times, many dealerships are more understanding when it comes to cancelling and returning your deposits.

A couple of things also to consider are how you signed for the car. From previous experience if you signed on site at the dealership the law is different when it comes to cancelling the deal, whereas if you did it all over the phone and emails you have better rights to cancel as you are covered by distance seller laws.

I honestly believe you wouldn’t have an issue so long as the car is at the garage waiting for you to collect, however I’m not massively in the know on all of this as I’m sure some people on here might be.
Current car: Manual MK8 GTI 245, Deep black pearl.
Ordered: DSG MK8 Clubsport, DCC, Pure white.

Thanks for your input, I guess it’s no drama for them anyway as the car would be easy to sell once recieved.
Plus I ordered it in April , the car has now gone up 2 grand since then .
