Smoke from oil filler cap
« on: 28 April 2009, 22:26 »
Hi , I wonder if anyone could help with a problem I have with my Golf Mk4 TDI 150 . When hot I get quiet a bit of smoke / vapour coming out of the oil filler cap and it pulses out in time with the pistons .I have heard that these engines have some blow by but mine seems exsesive . It uses no water , no oil , there is no oil in the water and visversa . It starts on the button when cold and there is no vapour when cold and it does not kick out white or blue smoke out of the exhaust . It has done 120k with full history . The egr needs a clean . It seems as if a vacuum forms in the crank and I wonder if there is a crankcase breather in the bowels of the engine that may be failed or blocked . I have had the pipe off from the rocker cover to the inlet pipe when running and there seems very little suck on tickover . Has anyone any ideas what may be the trouble . One last point the oil level in the sump is correct . Thanks
