Power Steering issue
« on: 14 March 2010, 20:31 »

Hi new to the site and new to car maintenence, I have a MK3 1.8 Golf Driver and its ben sorn before I got it and now looking to get it back on the road.

When moving it for the first time in about a year fluid started coming out the bottom, personally I thought it was the power steering fluid as the hoses could have perished in the time its sat there and on inspection of the power steering fluid it was empty so that was that.

So to the point can I repair these hoses? or do I need a whole new part?? And any idea of how much it would cost(new or second hand) and how hard it would be to fit as im pretty novice.

Any other tips for a new Golf owner on things to look out for on my 1.8 Driver?

Cheers

1st thing to do is track down the source of the leak, then you know what neweds to be replaced. new hoses from vw are expensive, but luckily there are loads of mk3s arrivbing in scrap yeards now so replacement partys wont be hard to find.  ive seen peple get new hoses made up by thier local pertek place, so thats worth looking into.
