a very good (and very positive) write up from vwvortex about the mk5 gti:

is it just the way im reading it... or does the first line of that review try to make out that america is responsible for the mk1 GTI ? :o

I think you could read it one of two ways:
1) That VW created the hot-hatch category in north america (this is obviously not the case though as it goes on to say in 1983 and the hot-hatch category was well established by then).
2) That VW created the north american hot-hatch category in 1983 (i.e. vw was responsible for introducing hot-hatches to america).
I think the latter is what they are trying to get across albeit very badly.
Great review though, I look forward to seeing a few of those tearing up the strip at inters next year!

Excellent review.
Did anyone read autocar this month, they loved it too and they did a whole feature on all the generations.

have to admit im slowly swaying towards it.. :-X

I think it looks and sounds like it's a quality piece of engineering. I want one !? :)
One thing though, as usual the UK gets shafted on price, it's expected to be $23,500 in America ::)
