Well done mate, not an easy task by any stretch.

Hope you changed the cam belt tesioner

Did a cam belt on my old diesel two years ago and two weeks after I fitted it the tesioner went and bent four of the valves and it was xmas eve .
Well worth changing when the belts off anyway.

the engine was put in the car in october with a new cam belt and tensioner

And the gasket had gone already?
Anyway good work fella

to tell you the truth i think the gasket was gone in the first place.

i got the engine off a mate who had it for ages in the back of the shed, he had never run it and i always lost water from somewhere......now i know where

Nice one Velly...

Wish I had the nouse to do that, luckily I've not had to do it

You didn't have to have head skimmed? How could you tell you hadn't done any damage to the head?

Your neighbours are either very nice tolerant people or scared of you

chris, i spoke to jody b4 i started, he gave me a guide how to do it

piggy,
i never had the car run 'really' hot so in that case thereshouldnt have been any damage to the head.
plus i could see the holes in the gasket so u can see where it was leaking.

as for the neighbours, i would probably say scared lol
