Starting Probs
« on: 01 October 2004, 09:07 »
Hi everyone, i've got mk2 16v & just recently it has developed a 'starting problem'   Ok here goes, somtimes when i turn the key she turns over & fires ok but then just dies. As i let go of the key the ignition lights flash!   I'm thinking maybe the ignition barrel??

Ideas?

Cheers everyone,
Matt

if i turn mine back slightly too much it cuts out!
i would say it was the switch!

theses are hard wired in the whole wiring harness!

not like the fords where the whole switch and harness clicks out!

the only way is to either cut a switch out from the scrappers and soilder it in or crimp it in....... or

or take the switch apart! i dont know how the switch mechanisim works inside the switch!

The ignition starter switch went on my MK1 a while back. Dont know if similar to the MK2 or not but removed steering wheel, ignition barrel/lock assy and could then access the switch at the back of the barrell. Quite easy to do and not too expensive. I think you can just loop the switch out to start the car to check if it is the switch or not.

Hope this may help?!
