Title: ABF Non Start
Post by: hardmonkeys on 14 April 2022, 14:08
Hi all,

Got a little problem with my ABF engined Cabrio...Its now not starting at all after running for a while on Tuesday.

Its been laid up for 5 yrs in my garage, where i started it, and moved it out once in a while, when starting, it was sluggish, pumped out some rich fumes, until it was warm, where it settled down and idled nicely..after an hour or so, it started to bog down and cut out...then it never started for a day or so.

This was a regular occurrence, so i figured i'd get it into my workshop, and get it sorted once and for all...drove it there..parked it up until the next morning...went in to do an oil change, started it up, left it running, after an hour or so...cut out...and now it refuses to even start again. It has a spark from the king lead, but nothing at the plugs, i've tried a new dummy lead in the dizzy cap with a plug in the other end...nothing!! rotor arm was new 5 yrs ago before it went away...as was the dizzy cap, crank sensor and coolant sensor. Nothing coming up on Vagcom either...im at the wits end here...any advice?

What amperage are you getting a defective charging system can cause intermittent problems.

Ended up being the Rotor Arm, replaced with a new one today! Started first time, albeit a little rough, but it ran.

On to the next thing now, which is getting the crank oil seal done, then…hopefully an MOT 👍🏼👍🏼
