Title: Are GTD's rare?

Will go have a look around it tomorrow as it is only a couple of minutes walk with the dog

I think it is the same one I have seen parked in the same street quite a few times now, just got told about it tonight by a couple of people so will have a look tomorrow.

Anything to look for with the engine? just the usual smoke and rattles I take it

Post by: Simeon on 13 December 2010, 00:54: Yeah, usual stuff, it'll probably have done a colossal mileage (as they all have) but engines should be good for 300k miles + they're proper little work horses. Service history always good of course and cambelts should be every 80k miles. Diesel return hoses on top of the injectors were crap and leaking on mine when I got it, only problem I've had in 20 thousand miles, though it gets a service every 3k :)

When I worked as a car salesman in the mid 90's, we had two in as px's in the same week. A black one and a white one. IIRC they were both sold within the week.

I bought mine on ebay, and its such a fun car, the engine is a lot more responsive than my old 306 1.9td. its also pretty quick for overtaking etc. I get around 45-50mpg.

Post by: robiwill on 13 December 2010, 22:46: they were only made for one year the gtd 1991 H and J plate's alot of the turbo diesel mk2's dont have the intercooler that the GTD has. Great cars had a few in our time so wouldnt call them rare but far far less common than a MK2 Gti in oak green lol

I think what he was saying was, there are far less GTD's around than there are oak green GTI's. He wasn't suggesting that oak green is rare.
