Throttle Body Knackered?
« on: 21 June 2003, 19:24 »
Hi,

I have a Mk3 1.8 Driver 8v and I'm not mechanically minded! The other day I drove off from my house and the car was very 'jumpy' and the car kept cutting out every few seconds. Now it won't start at all. The AA bloke who towed me back suggested it may be a faulty throttle body.

Has anyone had any experience with this problem or throttle bodies in general? Also, do I need to go to VW to get one of these replaced (i.e. does it have to be programmed?)?

Any advice appreciated?

Pete.

I had a similar problem with my 2.0gti. I was advised to get the throttle body an butterfly valve thoroughly cleaned (there's also a small microswitch). My local independant VW garage did the job in no time and at little expense.  The difference is amazing.
Good Luck.
