Today mine is in at the local specialist for new disks and pads all around, new plugs and the catback system is being removed and replaced with the stock exhaust.

I also put the car on a weight reduction program by removing the stock springs from the boot which have been there since I had it lowered last November.

Living in an apartment and not being able to wash my car during lockdown I've had a local valet company come and give my Golf the once over today now that they are back in business.   :smiley:

Are those BBS CH-R's? 18"? They look really good, been considering a set...

They are indeed.  BBS CH-R 18s with the regular centrecaps swapped out for the Nurbugring ones.  Eibach Pro lowering springs to finish off the look.  They are wider than the standard wheels so fill the arch much better than the Austins which always sat way too far inside the arch for my liking.  I had seen lots on 19s but not on 18s when I got these.

I dislike diamond cut wheels and the fact that they seem to be on just about every new car out there so the wheels are by far my favourite mod.  As an added bonus no extra charge from the insurance company even with them as a declared mod on the policy.

@TippEx; I’m a big fan of BBS alloys in general. IMO CH-R’s look good on both the mk6 and mk7/mk7.5 Golf and so do the SR’s in Himalaya Grey too.

Sorry for going off topic, but I’m with you on diamond cut alloys, and I really wish that car manufacturers would stop fitting these as the standard offering on many of their performance models. They might have great ‘bling’ appeal in the showroom to many would-be buyers, but for me, they’re more trouble than they’re worth;
  • The finish on diamond cut alloys has durability compared to painted / powder coated alloys
  • Because of poor durability, IMO they’re not really suited to winter weather conditions
  • Any damage to the lacquer clear coat and water can creep over the wheel’s surface under the lacquer and you’ve got the onset of white worm corrosion
  • More expensive to refurbish than painted / powder coated alloys, and because the diamond cut refurb process involves cutting away a layer of metal from the wheel’s face, they can usually only be refurbished a max of twice, otherwise structural integrity might be compromised
  • They can easily be damaged by poorly maintained tyre changing equipment or inexperienced tyre fitters
On my last two cars I’ve swapped the OEM diamond cut alloys for a more durable set with a painted/powder coated set, and if when I change my car the next one has diamond cut alloys, there’s a pretty good chance I’ll do the same again.

Completely agree, look good to start with until the 'white worm' starts to appear, unfortunately self inflicted by myself and the rest of the family :cry:
I will be getting mine painted as soon as things ease off a little esp as the original wheels have curved spokes so they would have to take off quite a lot of metal to skim to get at the edges of the rims.

@Al1040; the shape of the spokes shouldn’t affect the thickness of metal that’d be removed by the diamond cutting lathe, as the re-cutting process is computer controlled.

Reputable refurb companies have computer programs for many wheel profiles / designs and if they don’t have one for yours, they take measurements at critical points on the wheel and write a new program. The program then ensures that re-cutting of the wheel’s face removes a thin layer of metal that’s of equal thickness, as the cutting tip follows the exact profile of your wheel and curved spokes shouldn’t be a problem.

Having said that, I’d still consider getting them painted / powder coated rather than refurbished with a diamond cut finish.

I wish I liked Austin’s in silver to get rid of them being diamond cut but they don’t look good to me.
