Discover Pro Gen 2 updates is an idiots guide available?

About 4 weeks ago just before the Virus issue got serious, I changed my 2014 car for a 2018 model which came with a Discover Pro Generation 2 infotainment system.

I'm trying to update the software and maps but my after reading the manual my head hurts.

With my old car, I updated a dedicated SD card and once inserted everything worked. But with the Gen 2 system that doesn't appear to be an option so I presume I need to connect the car to my home wi-fi system and update from there.

So does anyone know of an 'idiots guide' for how to use the system?

Advanced in Car have an overview which is quite good but doesn't mention how to update the system. Of course the VW dealer said it was easy but they are not available at the moment.

Any help appreciated.

On the discover pro it has a hard drive so all maps are loaded onto that, so no dedicated SD card, so forget what you know,

To upgrade maps (I’ve not seen vw issue a software update on the net yet),
download vw software and download the update from there, (discover care?)
It should load it onto sd card
Put sd in car
On nav page press settings (bottom right)
Click on version information
Click update

You can also set up your sd card manually,

Discover Care is absolutely hopeless, I've always just downloaded the maps myself and never had an issue.

Install Discover Care, download maps with it to SD card, put SD card in the car to update maps. Remove SD card once updated and use again to repeat in 6 months time.

Thanks chaps its looking promising.

One question, map update is 26.8 GB but when I use an empty 32GB it says that there is insufficient volume, any suggestions?

Try formatting the SD card. If it still says not enough room then something is wrong with the card and you need to try a different one.

Formatted the card and tried another 64GB card but still says insufficient space so giving up for now, may try again later in the week.

Tried again this morning, following exactly the same steps as yesterday..... on 3rd attempt it accepted the card and has now downloaded.
