alrite, i confess....i work as the ripspeed specialist at halfords and take care of all the audio/satnav dvd fittings etc..
so i would say i'm pretty comfortable with the knowledge of both old and new head units. Just tell me the make n model of your frends unit and i can tell you how to my knowledge it can be done...but again..if there is no indicator for remote on the stereo wiring loom that it comes with..then it will mean having to patch a remote in...doesnt take long at all!
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???

no thats what im saying it DID have the connector. You seem to think that they all need patching but the head unit ive got came with an ISO adapter that already has it and all i need to do is plug the blue cables together. ONLY reason i have not done this is because i have to wire the iso connector in and want my dad to do a proper job about it.

no offence but my experience with the halfords staff near me are really really stupid. Just like the people in pc world have no idea about pcs

yes..PC world/dixons/currys/mastercare..all seem to have problems..i identified this wen i was working for that firm. lack of appreciation for there staff.

anyway..back on subject...i have come across halfords staff where the lack the knowledge of these things but i assure you i am quite comfortable with job. its just perhaps i'm having difficulty understanding what you mean by "having to wire your new radio ISO loom in"
has the wiring in your car been compromised and chopped at some point then?? are you refferring to a hardwire? as thats what it sounds like!?

sorry mate i though i made it clear :lipsrsealed: guess not!

Yes i am having to hardwire it in. My car is 17 years old and has been subject to someone hardwireing an adapter in.

I took my car to halfords and another couple of places looking for an adapter for the connector in my car and was told at 3 places that i would need to wire it in myself (the adapter i got with the head unit)

Ive got a plug that should go on a standard VW plug behind the head unit but that one has been taken out at some point along the line.

I know how to wire it in. I have the speaker cables, 3 power cables and the blue remote wire.

Cheers for your help and sorry i was rude last night :embarassed:

its kool dude...so er....u didnt mention wot make stereo u had then?

So from wot ur telling me now..u have what i no is a "PC3-08" bare end ISO lead:
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/catimages/accs/iso.jpg

Once u have wired this in....(remote is not important to patch in at this point) then u can simply just plug in the loom which came with your radio into this e.g:
http://www.geocities.com/exclusive_part/ken16-iso_3.jpg   (in the event of having a kenwood radio and if so...some kenwood radio's have a small separate remote wire coming directly off the rear of the headunit without the loom plugged in.

If not...many units will come with looms like this:
http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/images/iso_loom.jpg       where u notice that there are spare bare end wires which are the 2 blue cables..one usually striked with a white stripe being the remote output...and the other all blue cable being the electic antenna for those cars with electric aerials. Now usually you can use either as a remote as both send power signal down those wires when the head unit is on...but i'v come across some where if you wire it to the electric antenna, you will only have ur bass on when the actual source on the radio is switched to "radio" as of supposed to CD or Aux (if applicable).
and then turns off again when u activate sourse to CD or Aux!?
So in this case..wire your remote cable to the blue and white striked cable being the allocated stereo remote output!

Hope this is more specific. (i'v used kenwood as an example but you may have some other brand where the same situation will apply)
