Afternoon all.

Been browsing the site for a while now and thought i better sign up !

Ive just bought my 2nd car which is a Standard 8v Mk2 Golf Gti. I Love it!
It was a real bargin too and is near enough a mint!

Few plans for it, Big Bumper Conversion, 15 inch BBS RA's Alloys,

Few Questions.

Im having troubles finding a good Big Bumper Kit that come with fixings, is it still possible to buy a VAG fixing kit or similar?

Also i cant seem to find any BBS RA's, does anybody know of any for sale?

Let me know what you think of my little toy :)

Welcome to the site mate. As your car was originally a Small bumper like mine (see sig) id suggest just buying the bumpers and fabricating the brackets your self. Its fairly simple. Just use the old ones and tie a zip tie around it and the lower part of the bumper. Sounds a bit bodged. But it works well.

Welcome to the site. Nice car  What are your plans for it?

Do they have a web address mate?

Ive found some 7x15 ATS Cups ET20 but people are saying they may look to small on my golf? Do you think this is true.

Does anybody have any examples of golfs of 7x15s ATS Cups please?

I suppose with a suitable drop? No idea how much! it would look ok?

Here u go http://www.gpcvwaudi.com/

As for the ammount to drop the car, 15's are fine on say a 40mm drop - that's what I've got and you can see the result in my sig. Sure it's nice to have massive 17's but they really don't suit a mk2 if u wanna keep the handling and performance as it's intended to be.

I've got a diamond cut pair of porsche design 90's on the way http://217.207.109.245/stuff/design90.jpg

Silver cars are the nuts

They do look nice, but the lip is to small.... Im guessing there Et28s?

Ive found some new ATS Cups ET20s for ?300 without tyres.

Styledynamic do them for ?555 with toyos, but thats too much.

So say i drop my car 40mm Put ET20s ATS Cups 7x15, whats a good tyre size for them?

Firstly there's more to the lip size than choosing a small offset - you need to find out how wide they are. If they're still 6j wide with ET20 rather than ET28 the lip will still bel the same size - you want to find a 7 or 8j set if that's possible.

If you end up with a standard 6j set (I think 6 is standard might be 7j ??) then something like 195 50 15's are fine. Nice selection of manufacturers to choose from and a sensible price - sure u could go down to 45 profile, but less of the arch will be filled.

This is them dude!

They have some 205/50-15 with them. Does that help?

They look sweeet !!!

205 50 15 will be fine on them too ... still not sure on the et20 though. My are et35 and sit just about perfect, so they'll sit a further 15mm out than mine. It might mean u'll need to get the arches rolled as on a 40mm drop they'll be quite close to them, and even closer over bumps !!

Or just get some feckin stiff suspension - they just won't move then !

Oh i didnt know that.

Is getting the arches rolled hard work , would it cost alot of money?

Post by: davidhawkins_78 on 09 December 2004, 16:05
Not alot - but a pucker job must be close to if not ?100 and it's something to get done right or you'll end up with rusty arches !!

You might get away without it, but with that offset it'll be mighty close. Imagine - the wheels will be sitting almost flush with the outer most lip of the arch kit, so any bumps and there will be contact with the rest of the lip bent under (Lame description I know - but hopefully u'll get what I mean)

Well ?100 isnt bad. I guess most bodyshops will do the work yea?

What is involved in rolling the arches, as ive never done it before?

That car of yours looks lovely to me as it is. Not many straight MkIIs about these days in that sort of condition. Why not hang on a bit before you start modding - you might get to like stock!

Very true,  As ive only driven it once

Its just the wheels look a tiny bit to small, hence why 15 inch RA's are a possible choice!

Unless those ATS you said about before are comedy cheap you would be much better off getting the correct fitment and then not worrying about rolling the arches. Put on some 195/45's, lower it and jobs a good un

Cups look great on a mk2. I like the GL bumpers with the chrome trim. I think Davidhawkins has them on his car.
