fairplay, usefull to know, the stripes on the plus wires had me confused for a while in my golf, strip(e)ing the plus wires, that is strange, lucky for me thats not the only way to figure it out. and you have just given us another way too!
nice linkage!
should be a sticky I reckon.
maybe get some for the other years too.

As an aside.
Polarity can be very easily tested with a battery if it is not identifiable on the speaker or wires.
Apply the wires to the battery terminals (a pp9 will do or small power tool battery).
If the diaphragm pops out, the polarity is correct (plus terminal of battery is positive wire etc.), if it sucks in, it's wrong.
Simple as.

Like a Vauxhall, the permamant and switched live connections are probably the wrong way round. See this thread:

Not needed on my Golf, but on previous Vxs I needed to switch 2 wires in the ISO loom from the radio. Yellow and Red I think. Permanent live then holds the memory while the radio gets switched off with the key.

thank you very much. like i say i have used the radio before so it makes sense if they switched the wires around

just to let everyone know the live cables are red and yellow
because they have bullet clips i just swapped them over. job done
