Man shopping
« on: 12 December 2014, 22:45 »
I know what I want. Had them before on the  Mk6. Brilliant.
Continental 830 winter tyres.

Can't seem to find them anywhere. Austin 18s. Any ideas?

Painful phone shop on Monday unless anyone can help.

The pathetic Bridgestones just have to go. I'll look at getting some proper summer tyres in the spring.

Look for Conti 850... pretty sure the 830 is discontinued and 850 are their replacement.

Is absolutely correct, 850 are replacement and get rave reviews, but if you shop around you will find someone still selling old stock of 830's. Try Lovetyres.com

Finally fitted my winter tyres today....

Positively surprised so far by the Avon Ice Touring ST (205/55/16), much more grip than the 225/45/17 summer tyres at cold temperatures, no more wheel spin when pulling away with a touch of throttle in first :)

^Is the writing on the tyres just for storage? Hope it comes off on the wash.

Can't find 850s anywhere for 225/40/18.

VW listers seem the only option for 830s at the moment as I need storage too.
Pricey though at £170 a corner

At least I'd trust them whith my wheels.

Yeah, that size is not particularly cheap for winter tyres.... my brother went from them to 225 45 17 for winter tyres on his Giulietta, fair bit cheaper.

Maybe check Dunlop winter sport 4D or Nokian WR A3, they are decent as well. Nokians are a bargain at around 100£ each.

I went even more cheapskate and went for 205 55 16 - and yep the writing will come off, it's only chalk. Not even gonna bother to wash it off, drive in heavy rain and it's gone.

Man shopping rules dictate it has to be the Contis.

Plenty of other good tyres out there but that's what I'm having. Just trying to find a good deal.

Not sue that 850s are available in 225/40/18.. Looks like 830s from Listers.
