Too many pipes
« on: 01 December 2014, 11:57 »
The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems.

I think the Golf R has too many pipes. It looks like overkill and to be honest I feel it looks a bit chavvy.
Quad pipes with a 4cyl 2 litre petrol engine seems a bit OTT. Quad pipes should be reserved for 6 cyl+ engines with serious firepower. Perhaps and sensibly, there should be more cylinders than pipes. Even the R400 comes with twin centrally located pipes. Plus, one has to clean 4 pipes.

Would not dare post this on the R forum.

I agree it's overkill for a 4cyl and I much prefer the twin central pipes of the R400/420.  But what you gonna do, not get it just for that reason? I don't think so.

Better stock up on metal polish

No, best not ask on the R forum

They did it because they needed to distinguish it from the other cars in the line up, 4 is too many on most cars.

Perhaps a tail pipe delete will become a future favorite mod.

Is the R forum populated by zealots or something?

Zealots and then some!
The old English idiom boo to a goose comes to mind.
One has to pipe down significantly when posting.

I think they look the nuts, but then I would say that!

As an aside, I tried 'Launch Control' yesterday (3 times) - insane amount of fun, hugely addictive and so very quick!

i've never been a fan of the twin centres but would over come this on a R400, i would have preferred twin ovals

How can you fit a towbar on a car with central pipes?

I do agree that four are too many on a Golf. It wasn't all that long ago that we were slating the Max Power brigade for doing the same.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

My R comes in March, and I am inclined to agree with you, it is over kill, id have preferred two centre pipes to that of the R400.

On your note also, the R forum is bl**dy ridiculous at times. If you buck the trend and don't agree with anyone my god do you get shot down and almost feel like you shouldn't have spoken let alone signed up to the forum in the first place lol

You are damned if you do and damned if you don't on there.
I think a lot of R owners will start posting on here.
