cv boot cover / joint! and front bearing question
« on: 03 October 2004, 19:46 »
i had a friend of mine to a cv boot cove rht e the vr6 !

i watched him do it and all it was a case of is undoing the hub nut the bottom ball joint, trackrod end and moving the hub caliper/ disc to the side,

and then tapping the cv joint off with a hammer!
i never knew they just tapped off!

he filled it with grease and then put the boot cover on and a few washers which came with it, then he tapped it back on! alothough on looking in the haynes he didnt use the circlip which come with it this must have been inside the joint!

other than that it looked pretty much simple!

better than p****** about with the glue ones!
alothough there are new zip ones out with just zip lock together! no glue! so theses may be the new thing in soon!

also is the front bearing on a mk 2 easy.....
can you just knock them out like on the back bearings!

ones whining on mine but i dont know which one yet!

I've always used the proper boot kit.........don't rate these glued ones. Not heard of the zipped ones.

Front bearings are a lot trickier that the rear. They are straight interference fit and to do the job properly you will need access to a hydraulic press to push them out.
