Title: Center console storage, stuck locked
Post by: GolfWangVR6 on 12 March 2012, 02:43
Okay so ive had my Mk3 for about 2 months so i havent fully explored the car to its outer limits. There is a key hole next to the handbrake and i turned it to see what exactly it was going to lock, and then shortly figured out that i locks the tiny compartment you rest your elbow on while driving. The problem is that this is not budging back open :( ive turned the key every witch way so unless theres something im missing im completly stumped. Any help?

A big thank you from across the pond Mitch Zink, Detroit Michigan

As this is on a US handbrake console a lot of mk3 owners on here won't know what you're on about. Apart from the obvious, attempting to force the lock cylinder round the only other thing I can think of is to remove the round plastic caps from either side of the unit and remove it completely from the car so that you release the storage lid locking mechanism from underneath. Be careful pulling it out as there should be a small loom connecting to the boot / trunk release button on there as well.

Try pulling it up and at the same time turn the key 360
