Title: Replacement for SRP and EGP, perhaps one for Guy !
Post by: Uruk Hai on 07 November 2010, 14:58
Well the time has come to consider what I replace my SRP and EGP with before it runs out and as Guy isnt a lover of many AG products I thought I would put this one out to your good self (obviously any other comments or suggestions welcomes ) ! So can you suggest two products that will work well together, not cost too much more and give me more than these two products can in terms of ease of use, finish and longevity. Cheers

Here's my suggestions:

SRP - Replace with Poorboy's Black Hole
EGP - Replace with Poorboy's Liquid Natty's Blue

I'm not too sure about prices of AG, but they shouldn't be too far away from the products above.

+1 for nattys blue, also look at megs#16 which is a very good wax for roughly the same price as nattys blue.

havent used blackhole personally but its had very good reviews on dw, also consider britemax blackmax glaze which i do have and use it alot, very good product imho.

limeprime or even need for speed will clean your paint up nicely before you apply your chosen wax.

Which do you think would be better for steel grey paint? Black hole or White diamond as i'm also looking for a replacement for srp, i use jetseal and supernatural as seal and wax.
Cheers.

I think I should have added in the first post (Oops  :embarassed:) that the replacement for EGP will have a wax going over the top of it, at the momment my routine is Polish (SRP) - Seal (EGP) - Wax (Rainforest rub at the momment!)

Thanks for the comments so far, I'll look up the products and see what I think

the black hole is more of a glaze/filler than a light polish/filler than SRP isnt it?

The poorboys sealant is supposed to be very good, you need to check what will bind to what ie using one companies product to seal up anothers polish.

check detailing world for peoples experiences

Yes SRP is classed as more of a polish than Black Hole, however because SRP is so filler heavy, I don't think they are miles apart in terms of performance.

If you already have Rainforest Rub, then I would probably change my mind and say go with Dodo Lime Prime, and then just 2 coats of Rainforest Rub (very good choice in wax, my favourite along with Purple Haze)

i found black hole to be wicked, really helps with the depth of the paint. but i use that after polish.

natty blue is nice and quite cheap considering.

welcome to come try some of my products to do a panel on yours to see how you get on with it?

to keep it cheap, get some natty blue, and a polish.

what about poorboys professional polish 2? only about 14 quid a bottle? i've got some of this but not had a chance to use it yet. hopefully its ok  :undecided:

I havent considered Lime prime/light, is it effective by hand ? (Sorry should have mentioned that for now this will all be done by hand  :embarassed:)  I'm guessing I would use LP in the same way as SRP. I've had a look at a few of the suggested products and among others I've had a look at Poorboys EX - P sealant (I'm guessing this would this go well over black hole ?) and Jetseal 109 (is it worth the extra money ?), can anyone offer an opinion on these and would it fit into my current  Polish - Seal - Wax routine, something like Black hole - EX-P sealant - Wax ?

Thanks agian for the comments so far, food for thought

black hole is a sealant/glaze (can't remember which ) so you'd want a polish before that

polish xxx - black hole - wax xxx

I've been advised js109 is worth the extra over something like "wet mirror look" which i wasn't that impressed with tbh

@tg1 blackhole is a glaze not a sealant.

@uruk
lime prime is effective by hand but it all depends on your polishing technique, ive had ex-p in the past and its a good product but not as durable as 109,109 is worth the dosh all day long or you could consider the more expensive sealants like cquartz or gtechniq but these are very fiddly products and dont allow much room for error. either product will fit into your current routine.

O.K thanks for that. I think I'm beginning to confuse myself now

Perhaps the best bet is if someone suggests a good "Polish - Sealer" combination that will accept a wax over the top.

From the Polish I want filling and shine, from the sealer I want very good durability and depth of shine if possible, obviously the easier/quicker to use the better.

Edit: After reading the previous post I'm thinking about Jetseal as my future sealer now, is it better than EGP ?

yep jetseal is a good choice and will give you what you want ie nice finish and good protection. glaze wise id say either blackhole or blackmax glaze then your chosen wax.

Your about 5 minutes from me mate

Thanks for the very generous offer, I shall no doubt be mulling it all over for a while before I decide but if I do fancy trying the Black hole I'll be in touch.

Just to expand on the subject would the ultimate combination be

Polish - Glaze - Sealer - Wax

and does it have its benifits or is it complete overkill ?

Purple Haze, I have looked at some of the other products you mentioned and to be honest I think they (for the momment at least) are a bit beyond what I feel capable of using correctly.

well not forgetting, claying and washing first

my 2p is (baring in mind i'm not a pro or even a valeter and i'm probably off the mark a bit)

jetwash
shampoo
jetwash
clay/ tar removal
paint cleaner/polish (the megs deep crystal i've been using is 2 stage)
blackhole
poorboys wet mirror finish
natty blue paste wax

i done mine in september, and its still beading like a goodun now. its only had 2-4 quick wash & drys since. That said it did take me 2 days nearly to sort it out

I've not used much other than these products, but they made a massive difference to the depth of the paint. but i've never done the full lot before having the golf. only ever bothered to polish and wax a car before.

Cheers mate, no pro myself but at the momment mine has had the following done to it for the winter :-

Clean wheels and seal (Poorboys wheel sealant)
Snow Foam (Valet Pro PH Neutral)
Two bucket wash (Dodo Juice BTBM)
Clay (Bilt Hamber Autoclay regular)
Polish (SRP, 1 coat on whole car and 2 or 3 around door handles, fuel flap ect.)
Sealer (EGP, 1 coat)
Wax (Dodo Juice Rain forrest rub, 1 coat)

I finished that today (not all in one day mind !) so the old shed should be good for the winter and I'll give it another coat of wax if I get the chance but doing it all outside means I'm a slave to the weather

I would try more products but I won't buy any more until a current product runs out or I suppose in extreme cases if a product was simply rubbish or I couldnt use it properly I would give it away or bin it and get a replacement. At the moment Jet seal is almost certain as my new sealer but I remain to be convinced about what to replace SRP with  :undecided:

with alot of polishes on the market, very few of them are actually pure polishes, do you want a micro abrasive cutting agent? a paint cleaner? etc?

from what ive read on most websites, and speaking to members/mates within the car scene, theres alot of ppl that use ag srp, and say how good it is (even though it leaves lots of residue) but once you mention cutting agents, they think youre speaking in a different language, which makes me think why dont these ppl just stick with the ag ultra deep shine polish?!?

next yr, meguiars are releasing a new polish part of the ultimate range, its similar to step2 deep crystal, but with refined technology and gives alot more gloss, definitely worth trying if you can hold out for 2 months

2 layers of sealant and 2 layers of wax for will give you better coverage, if you are comfetable with ag srp then carry on using it but theres other polishes that are far better imho, lime prime, blackmax glaze, blackhole are all really easy to use products and can give good results by hand.
i'll send you a sample of blackmax glaze if you like?

Thanks for the generous offer but what I should have said is that I dont mind buying a glaze but can it be used in exaclty the same way as a polish ? I'm fine with and understand polish, sealer, wax but I dont really understand the difference between a polish and glaze ?

In layman's turn polish is a very mild cutting product to make the paint shine. Glaze is more of a filler (temporarily fills in whirls and small scratches etc) and can give paint more depth.

Black hole in an awesome glaze. Looks stunning on my Helios Blue.
White Diamond is more for light coloured vehicles but essentially they both do the same thing. Just specialised for different coloured cars.

yep spot on above^ get all your polishing done then glaze, it will add a really deep gloss to the finish.

It's funny you should add that as I have been considering going down the Polish - Glaze - Seal - Wax route but to be honest I'm not usre I would have the time or the weather to get it all done in a resonable amount of time ?

neat apc should shift it, suprised the polish hasnt removed it.

@Uruk go for it, even if you spend one day polishing and glazing then next day sealing and waxing, tis the norm for us pro's, only vary rarely do you get a car that only needs a day spent on it.

2 coats of jetseal, then 2 collinite should last at least 6 months if using a decent mild shampoo surely? (btbm?)

Thanks for that, when it took me 10 hr's to wash, de-tar, clay, polish and seal the car I thought it was me getting old but after reading that perhaps not
