Extended Warranty Terms and Conditions
« on: 16 December 2024, 21:34 »
My car has the all in servicing and extended warranty but at the last service they said all brakes need replacing.
Cost £1200+
I had an indie look at it (a guy I trust) and he assured me it only needs rear pads.
I could do this myself but will probably get my brother to do it at his garage over Xmas.
Does anyone know what's needed to not violate the T&C's of the extended warranty?
I will use OEM parts, probably Brembo and will get a full set on sale or return so if the front discs etc need doing the parts will be on hand.
Just don't want to lose the warranty!
Sure there is something about OEM parts and a vat registered garage but don't have the paperwork to hand.

Thanks
JB

Regs are the same as 3 year warranty service by an indy. Parts need to be OEM or OEM grade equivalent and keep invoices in case of query.

Typical report on brakes - had the same at the last dealer service yellow warning that front brake pads were worn. Had MOT at another dealership about a month later and no comments on pads at the health check!
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

I’ve been getting emails from the dealer in the last couple of weeks regarding the ‘amber warning items’ they supposedly flagged up as part of the vehicle health check when my car was serviced in September.

From what ‘documentation’ I’ve got (no physical documentation as everything’s digital now, including service invoices), there were no amber items. The only thing that was commented on was the tyres; tread was down to 4mm on the front and just under 6mm on the back so the dealer was touting for work! I responded to the email and asked for details of the amber items; surprise, surprise - no reply back from the dealer.

I don’t get my tyres from the dealer and give the workshop trainee the opportunity to trash my alloys when removing the old and fitting new tyres; I buy them where I can get them at a better price and trust the fitters!
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Ahhh the good old main dealer "your brakes are worn" crap.

If they ever say that definitely go elsewhere and a) have that validated b) have someone else do it.

Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC
