How to sell my faithful old GTi T

Helloo I’m new to this site but am thinking of selling my 2002 black golf gti t
Its a lovely car that I’ve had for many years and has done 111,000 miles its a 5 door manual and has an engine capacity of 1.781cc - how much should I be asking / what’s the best place to sell / any advice most welcome - don’t know where to begin with selling this workhorse!

I’ve no idea on current values but I’d think it would be snapped up enthusiastically.
Facebook marketplace is free, you’d have to suffer the idiots but would find a willing buyer pretty quickly.
Advertising on here is free but I’ve no idea what sort of interest the car would have.
And good old Autotrader…

Thank you for replying - I’m struggling to find out its value as a few people have said it’s worth more than I’d think as it’s 5 door and quite rare now.

There’s a 2002 52 plate silver 3 door 1.8T GTI for sale on AutoTrader. Described as excellent condition by the (private) seller. Mileage is 80k and it’s being advertised at £3,995. How realistic the asking price is I’ve no idea.

I don’t know if a 5 door would be worth more than a 3 door - probably not to a GTI enthusiast, many of whom consider the 3 door to be more desirable.

You could try car buyer sites such as Motorway and We Buy Any Car (WBAC) to get an idea of what the trade value is of your car; input your car’s details and you’ll get an indicative trade valuation (aware that the WBAC valuation will be low as they have a reputation of making lowball offers). There’ll be other sites you could try to get a range of values. Private sale prices are generally higher than trade values, so you could adjust the more realistic trade value upwards to reflect this.

Have a look around at similar cars and get and average asking price, also go to autotrader and start listing it which will generate a suggesting selling price. From there you have a ball park and can adjust depending how clean yours is and how quickly you need to sell it.

I find eBay is best for selling cars, lots of audience and it’s a flat £19.99 fee for an ad with 24 pictures. Sold my last two vehicles on there within a week and to the first person.

Good luck selling! The 1.8T is a great motor and should go fairly easily if you get good pictures and write a really detailed advert.
