Golf mk7 / Re: Alignment / geo settings for Clubsport S

It's mainly down to the front hubs which have more negative camber built in, keeping the tyre flatter to the road increasing contact patch and grip.

Aside of the engine, does anyone know the difference in parts for the CSS from that of the Clubsport or TCR that makes it steer that bit better? It couldn’t just be the GEO is it?

@MarkHowells; I think as Fred has suggested, the optimum settings depend on what you’re listening to. Your own listening preferences will also be a factor as we all have different likes and dislikes - e.g. some people like lots of bass whereas others don’t.

Best to experiment with the settings until you find the ‘sweet spot’ that suits you.

Thanks Watts, good info there.  Good news re the oil, the mk5 was using a litre every 1000miles or so, well within VW tolerance as well bizarrely. Will see if I can find a TCR to try close by.

Slightly different display to my Mk8 but the equaliser settings I believe are seperate to the modes ... Could be wrong.

I do toggle the modes depending on what I'm listening to, especially for listening to talk radio stations vs music

Golf mk8 / Best settings for Harman Kardon sound
« Last post by MarkHowells on 24 January 2025, 22:07 »
Just bought a mk8.5 GTi with a Harman Kardon system but have no idea on how to get the best out of it.

Does anyone know if it's best to use the presets or do I need to tweak the settings?

This is it's current settings. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Garage already mentioned it’s a dash out job for matrix, so I guess to need to find a better garage.

Just collected this new to me 2020 GTI PP in Indium Grey here in Australia, in absolutely showroom condition and 15k miles on the clock. I’ve had a 7.5 PP in the past, and then a T-Roc which I didn’t love. Missed the GTI but the mk8 is just so horrible. So here we are  :nerd:

Thanks guys, the wait for delivery on Wednesday feels like forever.
Well, got it now and had to drive it very carefully for the first few journeys so that I can get familiar with not having to use a clutch (never driven a DSG before).

Took it for a blast today. I know it's been 4 years since I sold my mk7.5 PP, but OMG it is quick and precise. Have tried out the drive and sport DSG settings and comfort and sport mode on various roads including country lanes and I am very impressed.

Spent hours setting it up and customising it for my needs and even though I vaguely remember what some of the settings are for, I did find it a bit annoying that there is no paper manual for it.

Generally very much pleased and impressed with it but can't help wondering why the infotainment screen is so big and why there are a couple of rattles in the car (had the same issue with the rattles in my 2020 Audi A3 Edition 1) and I am guessing that it is due to the increased use of thinner plastic materials.

I came from a manual 7.5 GTI and the DSG does take a bit of getting used to, even though I have had one before. I am ok with the screen size, but its a phaff to have to turn off the annoying lane assist every time you get in the car. It is obviously not a thing with all new cars as I recently hired a brand new Corsa on holiday and I soon found the lane assist could easily be permanently turned off via a button.

The online manual (via MyVW) is very vague about what the driver profiles (eco, comfort, sport) actually do (I think there is detailed info online buried in a technical VW website?). Most select Individual mode as that at least gives an idea of what you are changing. However, again annoyingly, the car will default back to comfort when the ignition is switched off; something that didn't happen with the mk 7.5.

I may be wrong!? But unlike my old 8, i believe my 8.5 did start in sport last time I used it, I usually leave the car in comfort so haven’t noticed either way, and presumed it defaults back to comfort, but having used it in sport and then parking it, I noticed it was back in sport once I drove the car later🤷‍♂️, I’ve not checked if it will do that again yet. I’m guessing I did something without realising though.
