After a month`s ownership......
« on: 01 June 2006, 20:29 »
This is about stuff that bugs you about your car. Feel free to add...........

Why does the rear end get so dirty ?

Why do I have to run the rear wiper more than I ever did on any other car ?

Why factory set the key to open only the driver`s door ? (Drives me NUTS!)

Why doesn`t it feel like 197bhp ?  Is it the DSG ?

Why can`t you get fuel in at full speed ?

Why isn`t the stereo as good as the one in a five grand less SEAT ?

Agree with most of those, especially the dirty bum bit!

And the stereo is unbelievably poor.

At the end of the day, VW are spending too much on building the car and they have got the main parts of the car spot on - the parts that matter... handling, performance, aura.  If you want a better interior, get a Mk4 GTI - but then you'ill have to live with the crap handling, performance etc...   But I do agree, even my Mk3 8v had a better stereo.  For the Mk5 Anniversary, I will be getting a lot of other options including upgrading the stereo.

All Golf marks have had the mucky bum problem. Its to do with poor aerodynamics of the steep rear hatch which means there are strange vortexes up the rump.

Same reason why saloons with same engine (and often heavier) have a higher top speed than hatches and estates.

I had a Mini Cooper S before my GTI and believe me that was far worse. The ar$e was permanantly filthy, it only carried about 1.5 litres of screenwash so i could never see where i was going or what was behind me. Ok the harmon kardon stereo was excellent but no where near as nice a noise as opening the windows of the GTI, sticking it in sport and flooring it!!!

Also you can change the settings of the drivers door entry if you have the high line computer, if not your dealer can change it for you.

Why factory set the key to open only the driver`s door ? (Drives me NUTS!)

Why doesn`t it feel like 197bhp ?  Is it the DSG ?

TRY USING BETTER FUEL

Why can`t you get fuel in at full speed ?

YOU CAN ON MINE

Why isn`t the stereo as good as the one in a five grand less SEAT ?

FECK ONLY KNOWS - MY CADDY VAN SOUNDS WAY BETTER THAN MY R32!!!!!

My R32 has its fair share of faults:

Factory:

Drivers wing sits proud of the door - in my opinion the whole wing needs lowering to match properly......

Various parts of the internal door handles had not been put together properly so I fixed the ones I could myself leaving this one that I couldn't do......

Burred screws on the door panels.........

Instrument cluster was squeeking so I removed the ill fitting trim panel to find the clocks had not been screwed in - not just loose but no screws!

Trim for cluster just does not fit properly - I have TRIED a lot!

Dealers:

Various longish scratches on the drivers sill

2 Small scratches on the lower O/S/R bumper

1 long scrape on the O/S/R exhaust valance

1 scuff on lower N/S/R of bumper

I know the dealers did these as I inspected the car when it landed ie Pre PDI and valet.

I'd get 'em fixed but the dealers just seem to fix one problem and cause another - Case in point my last GTi - The rear parcel shelf was wonky so they fixed it but chipped paint of the rear bumper as they did it!

So now I just live with the faults that dont bother me too much and hope that the next one will be better

If it helps all dealers VW AUDI MERC PORSCHE RALLIART and others seem to be crap in the service area - there simply isn't enough attention to detail.

The funny part is that my van is PERFECT so if you seek VW perfection don't buy a 31k Golf, buy a 15k Caddy!

I still totally love it though

And did I mention that the auto needs better bloody brakes than it has, what with the engine braking being minimal, and that ??
