Best way to clean glass?
« on: 11 July 2020, 23:56 »
I've had this issue on all my cars - the inside of the windscreen becomes 'streaky', especially in direct sunlight. Right pain trying to drive when you can barely see if driving into the sun. Plus it makes the windscreen fog up in rainy weather.

Have tried a few different glass cleaners but find the results are mixed at best. Autoglym glass polishe seems quite good on the outside at least but it's too dusty. Other spray cleaners are largely the same result for me. I usually spray it on, spread about with a microfibre then turn the cloth over and buff off to what usually looks like a good shine. Until I drive it in the low evening sun and can't see where I'm going.

Any tips/suggestions for products, ways to apply it, etc?

AG Fast Glass has always been my 'go to' cleaner but I think the cloth makes a difference. Might be worth trying some different ones, I have one that wasn't specifically for glass but does a really good job.

Another thought, do you keep your AC on all the time, particularly in winter? Keeping the atmosphere dry may help so you don't get as much moisture on the screen.

+1 for Autoglym Fastglass. Also, I find I get best results cleaning the glass in the shade or when the sun’s not shining so the glass is cold / cool, otherwise it can be difficult to remove whatever glass cleaning product you’re using.

AG Fast Glass for me too.

It's also a brilliant dust pickerupper for cleaning dash plastics, gloss inerior trims and touchscreens, without leaving any residue.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Thanks all. I've used fast glass in the past so will give it another go! Any suggestions for cloths to use with it?

Me too; one to apply the glass cleaner and another to wipe off / dry the glass.

Stoners Invisible Glass:

Cleaning the inside of the windscreen on a Golf is a pain, as you can never get enough pressure on the cloth to clean the film off properly.  The least worst way to do it is with one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Invisible-Glass-95161-Reach-Windscreens/dp/B0017K69MA/ref=sr_1_11?crid=FVMFMGPPT1C4&dchild=1&keywords=stoners+invisible+glass&qid=1594748460&sprefix=stoners%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-11

Remember to spread a large microfibre cloth or towel over the top of the dashboard first.  Invisible Glass is by far the best glass cleaner that I've used, and I've tried a lot of them.  Just a light spray will do the job, it's very easy to use.

Id have to second that in regards to the novelty windscreen tool, I purchased one and although its not amazing it does help.

I always use two microfibers also as someone mentioned above, one to clean and then a dry one to go over the streaks with, I also try not to use excessive product as this can sometimes cause streaking also.
