I would say if done at VW you are talking at more than £2k. New bumper plus paint and fitting alone will be £1K+ then the lights and rest of the panels under. I would go insurance unless you know a good body repair specialist.

I’d be inclined to agree to be honest, you’ll have plenty of come back going through the insurers as well if a year down the line the repair isn’t satisfactory.

Personally I can't see the point of insurance if you are going to have to pay that much yourself... unless of course that's compulsory excess due to high risk... eg a young driver...

Most companies like to stick a juicy compulsory excess on as soon as you dare utter the word gti, then by the time you stick a voluntary on to help with the price a little your left with the dilemma.

A pheasant caved the front of my GTi in 18 months ago and the bill was 1200 quid. Luckily my main bumper was ok but looking at that picture you need an entire bumper as it's smashed.

I make my excess as high as possible because in my view I don't think it's worth claiming unless the claim is going to be substantial - I think my excess is £800 and I probably wouldn't claim for any damage less than £1.5-2k

Poor badger

Unless he shrugged it off (they are tough bastards), at least he will have been genuine road kill, not like the ones that have died of lead poisoning, then dumped on the side of the road out of the back of a Landrover in the middle of the night.
