Engine management light problem Golf GTi Mk4

I have recently been to buy a mk4 2.0lt Golf GTi with my son. It's a 2000 petrol model on the w plate
The engine management light does not come on at second stage ignition. All the other lights seem to be working
Does anyone have any idea why this would happen and how to correct it
Have checked all fuses etc. no idea what's causing it??

I would avoid buying the 2.0 if you can.

immo 2 (pre 2001)cars don`t have an EML. and as wayne said, avoid the 2.0. try and find a nice 1.8t.
