The Autoglass windscreen advert was half right ...
« on: 20 January 2010, 10:50 »
I've had a pretty big chip in my windscreen (just a bit smaller than a 5 pence piece) for the past 2 years - and with the unforgiving crapness of my bargain coilies, my windscreen has met its maker.

.. but it didn't crack where the chip was, nope, that bit is perfectly fine - and so is the other tiny chip a few inches from it, but instead, for no good reason, just formed a 6" crack in the very lower left corner (passenger side).

So I guess I'll be on the hunt for a new windscreen now :( I can add it to my list ...

ABF Engine, MK3 widetrack 4 stud (is this even possible?), 16v Exhaust and Windscreen

bugger! Well it's only £10-£15 for a perfect screen from the scrappies! With the help of a friend, you can get the old one out and new one fitted in less than half an hour :)

I don't think a whole new screen will be much over a ton, actually.

As I look through mine like, a lot of the time I'm driving my Golf, the fewer scratches and blemishes the better.

Some corners are worth cutting, some aren't.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I'd rather spend the money I save elsewhere. I've had two windscreens from scrappies and they've both been perfect. I'm not willing to throw my money away so easily!

Ive just had mine done by them, and let the insurance do it as I dont trust myself with what is potentially a life saver! £60 aint so bad anyway at the end of the day considering they come to you to fit etc etc.

Annoying thing was it was a chip the size of a 5p piece like the advert, not even cracked or anything, but because it was on the drivers side i had to have a whole new windscreen...It wasnt even in my eye line...right at the top of the screen.

Never mind hey

This is old thread dig-worthy.

MOT is up soonish so I need a new screen.

Autoglass = £302 (managed to barter down to £204)
National Windscreens = £100

I think I know who I'm picking...

Are you running a front strut brace Ben? Sometimes if the front end is too stiff it can create extra movement/fatigue around A post and scuttle area, or rust itself in the same area can again, weaken the shell... one of the reasons that Rallye's had their screens bonded in was to overcome the shell flexing, as Im sure you already know..
