If you know the street name and number the RNS510 will take you to the door!! Pop over to the mk5 section and have aread from anyone who has this system fitted and they will rave on about it as I do.

Its simply a fantastic piece of kit and puts a tomtom to shame... if you havent tried it for yourself then I sugest you do. in fact its one of the main reasons I went for another VW as opposed to another brand. it puts most other manufacturers oem sat nav systems to shame.

Not doubting you in any way but how is it better than a TomTom? Reliability? Convenience?

Sounds like they've significantly improved the RNS510 over the RNS500 I had in my old Passat. That was basically only good as something to disagree and argue with when my wife wasn't in the car!

We have a sat nav (SWMBO calls it my other woman and hates it).  If we're both out SWMBO will still get the map out, sometimes I'm told to go one way by one and the other tell's me to go another.  God help me when I obey the Sat Nav  even when the Sat Nav is right.  At least the Sat Nav doesn't get the hump, she just recalculates and gets on with the job in hand.

Was offered a GTi with SatNav by my dealer rather than seemingly endless wait for my spec - is very nice and everything but is totally useless compared to my basic TomTom - it doesn't (fully) recognise postcodes (only uses first 4 characters from memory, i.e. gets you within a few miles of your destination...aaargh!

Erm, it recognises house numbers/house names, so will get you to within six foot of your destination.  And it also has 'dead reckoning' which no TomTom has!  :smug:

Had to google that one

What's wrong with TLAs?  I must admit I had to google SWMBO as well, but at least that's two accronyms I've now learnt on this forum.
