Title: MK6 Golf - All new car or improved MK5
Post by: Horney on 07 October 2009, 12:07
Lets put this to a vote to see what people believe.

This is not a vote as to which is better but a vote on whether in your understanding the MK6 is all new Golf or is well executed revision of the MK5.

No smart arse replies, just votes please.

you wouldn't have started this thread if you didn't want smart arse replies.  surely all of this has been covered in the other thread?

Yeah it's in the process of being covered but you can't add a poll to an existing thread which is whay I sarted this one.

I can pop a link to the other thread for people to discuss it though.

This is a thread created by a w@nk, and for some reason only known to god, it brings out all the other w@nks on here that dont have a mk6.

Ok, I've upset you in the last thread, I'm sorry, happy ?

No need to apologise I'm not in the slightest bit upset abou thte other thread. I do object slightly to be called a w@nk because I happen to express views which differ from yours and I'm prety confident that the other non MK6 owners on here will be a little annoyed at being called w@nks as well but that's not my problem.

You just dont get it, is it a mk5 door or a mk6 door ? Is this door better than previous doors and is this door that different that it constitues to being a new door ? I just can't tell, so I dont know what door it is I should be going through.

No problems, soon as I get home I'll walk back out my bedroom. Not quite sure what it will achieve, but I'll give it a go. Thanks.

p.s. Am I allowed to walk back through it, or will I stand at the door for being naughty till you shout me back in ?

Everyone and their granny in the MKV section claims to be/know a VW master tech.

Is there no-one that could actually dispel the argument apart from confusing their own opinion with fact

I.e.  chassis = same, transmission = same, etc etc?

Eh? What's with the fat people comment? I can understand people not wanting to go to meets as it's not everyones idea of a fun day out and that's fine. But calling those that do actually like to meet up fat is a little out of order and somewhat odd.

I'd also like to point out that talking crap is always the order of the day at a meet, it's what mates do whether it's at the football/rugby/cricket, down the pub, at a dinner party or at a car meet.

isnt the mk6 a method of cost cutting by vw, like it cost them something like 20% less to build the mk6 than a mk5 or something like that. Not saying its better or worse though.

or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Correct tree has been barked up. That is indeed what the MK6 is all about.

This topic is however about whether the MK6 is an "All New" Golf or a recycled and improved MK5.

They're only different in that skin is changed as I have told you for what feels like a million times it's a reskinned car. The door is the same structure with the same glass, the same electrics and will fit perfectly in the opening of both cars, it just has a different profiled skin to match the facelift of the MK6.

Hmm, taking an objective view I'd say that the MKVI GTI is a stop gap that is billed as an all new car, but takes the best bits of the MKV and adds some new revised parts like the engine, E-diff, ACC and styling. I agree that it was brought about due to the expense that each MKV cost and that the resulting cost save was successful for the most part. To call it a completely new car would be wrong, but then again to call it a revised MKV is too, so what do you call it?........

A bastardised Frankenstein's monster of a MKV purebred maybe?

Is it just me, or are there 3 different topics going on in this forum all speaking the same sh1te about whether a MK6 is actually an upgraded MK5 or not?!

This one, "New Golf Mk 7 rendering from Auto Express", and "Has anyone mistaken or called your MK6 a MK5???"....and they're all dominated by the same people giving the same opinion in all of them!

Yep, we're all getting a bit fed up up with it now.

To be fair I started this thread saying comments should be kept to the other threads and this was jist for the vote but clearly that was never gonna happen!

Nope... this is true!  There are some out there who just have to stick their tuppence worth in everything!  Hence why they end up with 1000's of posts after only joining 6 months ago.

When I see threads like this I realise why I don't bother coming on here as much anymore. But I'm here now and I've seen an e-mail about this so this will now be locked as it does absolutely nothing to help this site.
